Kaye Thomas-Hogan

Kaye
Thomas-Hogan,
owner of Balanced
Innergies, is a multi-talented instructor/therapist in the
ancient healing art forms of Yoga, T’ai Chi and Massage. She has been a student of
Yoga since 1971, became a certified instructor in 1981, a Golden
Lotus Yoga Teacher in 1991, and a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist in
1993. Kaye is a member
of the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit (since 1981) and is a
Registered Yoga Instructor/500 with the Yoga Alliance, an
internationally recognized professional
organization.
Kaye has
instructed special yoga classes in various fields such as
cardiology, cancer, mental health, multiple sclerosis and
fibromyalgia, and has worked at colleges, high schools, yoga
studios, hospitals, churches, retreats, seminars, community centers,
health camps, fitness centers, health food stores and more. In addition to being a local
presenter, Kaye has organized her own classes, workshops, seminars
and retreats throughout Michigan,
Ohio and Canada. Besides her classes in
Grayling and Lewiston, she is offering hatha
sessions with the Song of the Morning
Staff.
The first contact
with yoga was with Swami Satchidananda’s Integral Yoga through
Kaye’s Comparative Religion Class at Wayne
County Community College. After attending classes with
the Integral Yoga Institute of Detroit for ten years, Swami
Amarananda encouraged her to become a yoga instructor and then began
training her. The
one-on-one tutelage was an invaluable experience in both the
physical and spiritual aspects of yoga.
Soon after
becoming a teacher and then starting her own classes in Dearborn, Kaye
“stumbled” upon Song of the Morning Ranch while camping across the
street in the Pigeon River Forest Campground. After hiking many of the
trails in the area, she decided to go to the ranch to “check out the
horses” for something different to do. Much to her delight she
discovered “A Yoga Retreat of Excellence”. After following the back
road to the office, a lovely young lady (Sandi Jones) came out to
take her on a tour.
Since Kaye had her dog with her (oh, no!), she just asked for
some brochures and promised to return.
Return she
did! Year after year
with increasing frequency Kaye returned to the ranch, often with
friends or students.
She began the Self-Realization Fellowship lessons, eventually
received Kriya Initiation from Yogacharya, then certification as a
Golden Lotus Yoga Teacher.
From there she became one of the teacher trainers, President
of the Golden Lotus Yoga Teachers Association, and even went on
staff in 1994. And
return she will because husband, Ray, and Kaye have a lot in the
Clear Light Community at the ranch just waiting for a home to be
built.
In the meantime
Kaye continues to teach yoga and T’ai Chi and is a massage
therapist. Kaye’s
interest in the complimentary fields of massage therapy and T’ai Chi
Ch’uan emerged in 1982 and 1983 respectively. Once she began her study of
yoga, it seemed a logical and natural step to pursue the others, as
the three sciences all deal with the natural healing techniques of
the body, mind and spirit.
She has studied with world renowned teachers, yogis, swamis,
doctors, masters, therapists and health practitioners to increase
her skills in her areas of interest.
In the field of
massage Kaye is proficient in many modalities such as Swedish
Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Raindrop Technique, Repetitive Use
Injury Therapy, Dry Brush, Acupressure, Polarity, Therapeutic Touch,
Reiki, Chakra Balancing and other energy
work.
Kaye’s study has
taken her down several different avenues of T’ai Chi. She is trained in Yang Style
long form, T’ai Chi for Arthritis, T’ai Chi for Diabetes, along with
numerous short routines of various styles, and Qi Gong. She is affiliated as a
presenter with Cloud Hands Michigan, a large T’ai Chi organization
that offers 4 workshops annually throughout Michigan.
In her spare time,
Kaye enjoys crocheting, knitting and using her spinning wheel. For a few years Ray and Kaye
raised llamas so she has enough fiber to keep her out of trouble for
several years! She
lives in a quiet forest home in Frederic, Michigan with her husband Ray, 2
dogs, 4 cats and their ring neck turtle
dove.
